Greetings!
I am Harry Agina, in the company of my journalistic alter-ego, the radical Socio-Political Critic of Africa, Mr. No Bullshitting. You have see my highlights above, of course. You and I are gonno walk through their expatiations, one by one.
Refer to my title and my accompanying news headlines below about what many Nigerians call the grand plot by Nigeria President Bola Tinubu to destroy Nigeria’s democracy. Tinubu and his ruling APC political party are accused of a plot to reduce Nigeria to a one-party political system. The objective is to kill all oppositions against President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid for a second term in office.
So far, I have only referred to the narrative among Nigerians, and not necessarily mine yet. Now, I’m gonno bring in my own personal narrative with Mr. No Bullshitting. If you have been following our commentaries, you must know that I consistently use the word “RE-SELECTION” instead of re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
THE PRELUDE:
Before I get into the present destruction of Nigeria’s democracy by President Bola Tinubu’s administtation, here’s my brief historical prelude. It comes with the origin of the term, RE-SELECTION, which I use instead of RE-ELECTION when I talk about President Tinubu’s 2027 bid.
A good majority of observers around the world see Tinubu’s ascension to Nigeria’s president seat in 2023 as a SELECTION and not an ELECTION process. It all started with his political formula during his 2022 to 2023 electioneering for his 2023 presidential election race. Once upon a speech, he declared to his followers in a video-recorded conference that, for him, “Electoral success is not served a-la-cart; rather, you must grab it, snatch it, and run with it.” That was just one of several Tinubu’s audacious pronouncements, which SUGGESTED that he was not ready for a free and fair 2023 presidential election. Ambiguous or fanciful as his opologists may try to paint that comment to look harmless, fact remains that it carried a lot of negative vibes in the polity.
There is something in law against “Incitement of Crime.” That’s exactly what Tinubu did to his gullible psychophantic followers with that speech. His “grab it, snatch it, and run with it” words definitely incited or instigated them into political election rigging thuggery. Going by just that one speech, it’s difficult for any uncompromised objective observer to absolve Tinubu of a charge of INCITING thugs to rig election for him in 2023. Following his speech, a lot of “grabbing, snatching, and running with people’s votes” did happen on behalf of Tinubu and his party. Among several evidence of atrocities, video evidence of rigging intimidation for Bola Tinubu’s APC party by thugs abound on YouTube even as I write this today. Among the most notorious thugs was one MC Oluomo. In fact, I personally made vlog commentaries with those videos myself in that period.
With utmost impunity, Oluomo openly threatened voters in Lagos to stay away from polling boots if they were not willing to vote for Tinubu’s APC party. The threat was in public, and nothing happened to Oluomo. It was said that he was above the law because he was “Tinubu’s boy.” A Nigeria Police Commissioner was interviewed and questioned how come Oluomo was not arrested. The officer laughed it off that Oluomo was only joking. Sure enough, Oluomo and his thugs fulfilled their threat and terrorized voters at the polling boots who dared them. Nigeria Police stood by and watched because the power of Bola Tinubu was at work. In fact, it was apparent that police provided protection for MC Oluomo.
It is also on record that Bola Tinubu sealed his numerous audacious undemocratic electioneering pronouncements with his infamous claim in Yoruba language, “Émi l’ọkan.” It translates to “It’s my turn.” However, I am a professional with a policy of OBJECTIVITY and FAIRNESS. So, it behooves me to say that “Èmi l’ọkan” on its own does not necessarily mean that Tinubu said he would rig the 2023 election. It could have been a proclamation of his faith in his destiny to win the election through hard work.
Fast forward beyond the “snatching, grabbing, and running with votes,” to the grand finale of the election process. Apparently, the “grabbing and snatching and running with votes” did not culminate in a win for Tinubu at the count of the votes. So, the chairman of INEC, the electoral umpire, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, was employed to bail him out. Millions of people of Nigeria and beyond accused Yakubu of corruption of the highest order in favor of Bola Tinubu. Professor Yakubu’s alleged criminality was very unintelligent and easy to prove, thus:
The presidential and legislative elections were conducted exactly under the same technological conditions and exactly on the same day and the same time. Professor Yusufu claimed that his vote electronic transmission system could not upload presidential votes due to server hitches. Yet, he was able to easily upload the legislators’ votes very successfully. Hence, in place of the electronic transmission of votes, Yusufu manually collated and transmitted the presidential results to the system. That was how he manipulated the result to rig Tinubu into power. He was demanded to show proof of the “hitches” he claimed in the electronic transmission system. Til date, Professor Yakubu could not show the world any proof of his “hitches” because none existed. Many critics of the entire world alleged that the excuse Yusufu employed to rig the election for Tinubu portrayed him as “a crook who was not even intelligent enough to cover his criminal act.”
Then, came the grand-grand-finale at the ALLEGED election-rigging court trial against Tinubu. The judges of Nigeria’s most corrupt judiciary in the world endorsed INEC’s pronouncement of Tinubu as president, despite a flurry of damning evidence on the contrary. As usual, the judges cited “technicalities” as their justifications.
THE PRESENT STATE OF THE NATION:
I went through the preceding history to lay the foundation for the present political madness in Nigeria. Specifically, I needed to make my case that the world, not necessarily Harry Agina, but many people of the world believe that President Bola Tinubu was SELECTED not ELECTED into office in 2023. And that’s to say that I align myself with the popular allegation that he and his cohorts have apparent elaborate plot to continue in his “snatching and grabbing” to actualize his RE-SELECTION bid in 2027. He was not in power as president in 2023 when he was alleged to perform the feat with his vast wealth to get SELECTED into office. Now, he is the president, and he accused of having activated all the presidential powers at his disposal for his 2027 second term RE-SELECTION. It is said that, once a selector, always a selector.
THE ONE-PARTY SYSTEM PLOT:
I want to start with my Thematic Question, thus: What exactly are Nigeria President Bola Tinubu and his APC Political party so afraid of? That’s the question on the lips of many critics in Nigeria today, including my own lips. A former senator, David Mark, the Chairman of the current major opposition ADC political party, was the latest prominent Nigerian to ask this question a couple of days ago. The question is necessitated by the fact that President Bola Tinubu and his cohorts have succeeded in dragging most of the prominent Nigerian politicians into his APC party. All except a couple of Nigeria’s 36 state governors have decamped from their previous parties to APC. Also, about 280 out of the 360 members of the federal House of Representatives, and 75 out of the 109 of the senators are now in APC. Aside the governors and lawmakers, most other prominent politicians have also decamped to APC, or plan to decamp soonest. Many of those decampees did or will do so because of their alleged criminal records. Failure to align with Tinubu and his re-selection bid most likely would result in their arrest and trial for their past alleged crimes of stealing public funds. Others decamped or will decamp because they are running for political offices in 2027. Aligning with President Tinubu comes with the benefits of his alleged election rigging machinery, critics say.
AGAIN, WHAT ARE TINUBU AND HIS COHORTS STILL AFRAID OF?:
Be sure to keep sight of where I am going with all this. Tinubu has already grabbed most if not all the politicians who run Nigeria to endorse him for the 2027 election. He is now SUPPOSED to be comfortable that those politicians will ensure the votes of their various constituents for APC, particularly for the re-selection of President Tinubu. So, what else is he afraid of? Or, do all those Nigerian decamped politicians– the governors, the lawmakers, and the rest of them– actually have the love of Nigerians as they claim? Do they really have the votes of their constituents to deliver to Tinubu in a free and fair election?
THE THREE-PRONG ANSWER:
(1) The governors, the lawmakers, and all the other decampees to APC know that they are lying their asses off when they claim that their constituents support their moves. In fact, they know that their constituents hate them because of their atrocious corrupt ways. So, if there should be FREE and FAIR and UNRIGGED elections, they would all lose, woefully.
(2) Tinubu is aware that majority of Nigerians dislike him because he has failed woefully in managing the economy and the security of Nigeria. It is said that “a hungry man is an angry man.” Add that maxim to the terrorism that Tinubu cannot control in Nigeria, and it is clear to him that he would get little or no votes in 2927. So, the ruling APC and President Tinubu know that any strong opposition candidate against Tinubu would beat him, hands down in 2027!
(3) Tinubu and his alleged cohorts also know that Nigerians are more determined this time to resist election rigging than they were in 2023.
Now, I ask, do you disagree with my analysis? If yes, then, please, give us your plausible answer to my thematic questions: What is President Bola Tinubu so afraid of? Why are Nyesom Wike the Grandstanding Mafia Boss, President Tinubu, and the APC so desperate to ensure that there is no strong presidential candidate opposing Tinubu in 2027 if they are so sure that Nigerians love them as they claim?
I tell you what, why don’t you take your time and think about your own answer or answers if you do disagree with mine. All I plead with you is to show some integrity that is devoid of any biases or sectional favoritism in your assessment. Meanwhile, I wanno take a break here and prepare for my second part of this treatise. I have posited here that it is APPARENT that there is indeed a grand plot being executed for a one-party political system of demo-crazy in Nigeria. In part 2, I will bring you my analysis to support my position, backed with FACTS and POSTULATIONS that are based on the facts, along with convincing commonsense. Until then, thanks for reading.
