WOMEN LIBERATION MOVEMENT AND GENDER EQUALITY IN AFRICA

Greetings!
I am Harry Agina with the Afro-Scope Project. It was 1967 when Women Liberation Movement took off in the USA. The movement also took off during the same late 1960s in Europe.

It’s interesting and curious that some parts of Africa recorded much earlier women agitations against “The establishment” than Europe and America. The records included the 1929 “Aba Women’s Riot” in southeastern Nigeria against British colonial taxation policies. Yet, America and Europe today are light years ahead of Nigeria and other African countries in Women Liberation And Gender Equality success.

In the following video conversation, the Afro-Scope Project takes a look at some of the cultural attitudinal factors stifling the rights of women in Africa, relative to the speedy improvement in the West. Check it out:
