“CITIZENS OF USA AND EUROPE NOW COME TO NIGERIA FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT” says Nigeria’s Health Minister, Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate.
That’s a news headline (or a paraphrase) in today’s (February 5, 2025) newspapers in Nigeria. Now, there are few possibilities about this statement by the minister, and those possibilities CAN NOT possibly include REALITY or FACT, no sir, no ma’am!!! Here are the possibilities?:
1) Some Americans and Europeans who, for whatever reason are stuck in Nigeria and cannot get to their countries for medical treatment, so they are FORCED by circumstances beyond their powers to accept medical treatment in Nigeria…
2) Minister Pate was in some form of trance when he cooked up that comment, and did not know what he was saying…
3) The Minister is a huge, terrible liar!!!
The point here is that it is not possible that Americans and Europeans leave their countries and visit Nigeria for medical treatment where hospitals are in a total mess. Not even private hospitals in Nigeria can attract an American to leave America, the medical capital of the world, to visit Nigeria for treatment. Because, even those fairly okay private hospitals in Nigeria still suffer the corrupt practices and irresponsible practices that are prevalent in most Nigerian systems, which the rest of the world are scared of.
Now, if the Minister said that Nigerian doctors outside Nigeria are saught after by citizens of their host countries, then I agree. Why? Because, the Nigerians who are NOT IN NIGERIA are not caught in the corruption that is endemic in all Nigerian systems in Nigeria. In other words, Nigerians are among the most intelligent (maybe even THE most intelligent) people in the world, but Nigeria itself has been destroyed by endemic corruption, much thanks to our evil rulers. So, too many Nigerians within Nigeria have resigned themselves to the “You must join them since you can’t beat them” syndrome.
