Greetings, folks!
They call me Harry Agina, and I do answer. I guess that makes it my name, right? Well, presently, “Mr. No Bullshitting” has taken possession of my being to lambaste some rulers of Nigeria, meeeeeeeen!!!
And, of course, you already see above what our topic is. Now, couple it with the newspaper headlines below, and you can already imagine what ‘agwan’ in my brain right now:
The first newspaper headline below talks about the annoying fact that some of the people who rule Nigeria have plans to increase the salaries of the rulers, which are already criminally and devilishly too high. The second headline talks about another fact that 239 lecturers of a state university in Lagos Nigeria, which is called University of Lagos, resigned because their salaries are too low to feed their families, not to speak of taking care of other living expenses. And then, the third headline talks about a looming strike by ASUU. For my non-Nigerian audience, ASUU is acronym for “Academic Staff Union of Universities” in Nigeria. The strike is to protest the refusal of the federal government of Nigeria to pay reasonable salaries to the teachers and other university workers in Nigeria. The government continues to make promises that are never fulfilled while the workers continue to suffer in penury, meeeeeeeen!!! Now, let’s analyze the general situation of salaries and wages in Nigeria, relative to the EVIL AND CRIMINAL differences between hard working masses of Nigeria and the rulers of Nigeria.
GENERAL ATROCIOUS MINIMUM WAGE IN NIGERIA:
The current minimum wage in Nigeria is 70 thousand naira per month for workers with university degrees. Before I talk about what the rulers of Nigeria pay themselves, I must tell non Nogerians the value of the 70 thousand naira salaries paid to Nigerans. With the current average exchange rate of one US dollar to one-thousand-five-hundred-and-fifty naira (U$D1 to N1,550), 70 thousand Naira amounts to 45 US dollars per month.
Now, let’s relate the 70 thousand naira monthly salary of a worker to cost of living in the economy that President Bola Tinubu destroyed as soon as he “GRABBED” power in 2023. One 50 kilogram bag of rice is sold between 85 thousand naira and 150 thousand naira, depending on where you buy it. As you see, this is much higher than one-month salary of a typical worker with college degrees. Take note that rice is among the cheapest food commodities in Nigeria now, but let’s not talk about other foods. Also take note that the rice requires condiments to cook it, such as meet, tomatoes, and the rest, and their costs are as astronomically high as the rice, thanks to President Tinubu’s senseless incompetent economic policies. For instance, a medium size chicken costs over fifteen thousand naira. Before Tinubu became president in 2023, a chicken was less than five hundred naira. 50kg bag of rice was about 22 thousand naira before Tinubu. Now Tinubu has shot it up to 85 to 150 thousand naira with his terrible rulership, meeeeeeeen!!!
Enough of the cost analysis. I only wanted non Nigerians to understand how INSENSITIVELY ridiculous it is that President Tinubu’s government is making a family of husband, wife, and two or three children to live on a salary of 70 thousand naira per month, which is not enough for a decent living of AN ORDINARY DOG. For most people, transportation to work takes more than half of that sum due to Tinubu’s INSENSITIVE unplanned fuel subsidy removal that shot transportation cost sky-high, meeeeeeeen!!!
COMPARE THE SALARIES AND ALLOWANCES OF THE RULER OF NIGERIA:
I don’t want this commentary to get too long. So, with just a couple of examples, I will give you a synopsis of how much money the people in power in Nigeria take home every month. For a start, I must tell non-Nigerians who don’t know that the rulers refuse to make their income public. They hide the information because they know that the knowledge would enrage Nigerians. Mind you, Nigerians are too doggone DOCILE to revolt even if they know the truth. In any case, the rulers only expose what they want Nigerians to know in the name of salaries. But their total packages that include evil ATROCIOUS ALLAWANCES are never revealed. From the last information accidentally revealed about Nigeria’s lawmakers, for instance, each of them takes home about thirty million naira every doggone month, meeeeeeeen!!! The federal ministers also go home every month, or should I say every doggone day, with similar packages in the evil name of allowances. I have only named those two categories of Nigeria’s rulers who are atrociously overpaid, to the detriment of the masses. State governors are FAR WORSE because they are totally in control of the funds of their states.
LOOTING OR STEALING OF PUBLIC FUNDS BY THE RULERS:
In addition to their outrageous salaries and allowances, MOST, if not all ranking officers in the RULERSHIP of Nigeria are VERY CORRUPT. They are in the game of stealing public funds. Everybody in the world who cares to know is aware that corruption of Nigerian rulers is the bane of Nigeria. Their stealing of public funds in various forms are a gazillion times more atrocious than their salaries and allowances. Hence, they all live in stupendous affluence like demigods while their slaves, the rest of Nigerians are dying in penury, meeeeeeeen!!!
THE INSATIABLE RULERS AND THEIR CURRENT PLAN TO INCREASE THEIR SALARIES BY 114 PERCENT!!!
Finally, I conclude with the crux of, or my reason for this commentary. It is annoyingly atrocious that Nigeria’s agency responsible to set public salaries has the temerity to even think of increasing the salaries of the same class of citizens who are already atrociously overpaid, most of whom are also stealing the country dry. On the inauguration day of Bola Tinubu as the president of Nigeria in 2023, his very first insensitive announcement was his removal of fuel subsidy. Instantly, REPEAT, INSTANTLY, all hell broke loose and fell upon the heads of Nigerians!!! Prices of ALL COMMODITIES AND SERVICES SHOT UP SKY-HIGH that very day in anticipation of the ripple effects of cost of transportation across the nation. To make matters unbearably worse, President Tinubu’s second senseless policy of reducing the value of Nigeria’s naira currency immediately rendered it VIRTUALLY WORTHLESS. The aggregate effect of those two senseless policies of President Tinubu is that Nigerians can no longer afford to purchase anything in Tinubu’s DISASTROUS ECONOMY with whatever little funds that they possess, meeeeeeeen!!!
In all this, it took long public outcry and nationwide protests to finally force the government of President Bola Tinubu to raise the people of Nigeria who are the real workers from thirty thousand naira to 70 thousand naira minimum wages. The raise is ridiculous and insensitive because 70 thousand naira is worthless in light of the astronomically high costs of living. Nigerians were asking for minimum wages beyond 500 thousand naira, but the slave drivers who rule Nigeria insisted that they would not pay beyond 70 thousand naira, meeeeeeeen!!!
Now, those same slave drivers who are already grabbing atrociously and criminally high salaries, allowances, and looted funds FOR DOING NOTHING, relatively speaking, have come up with the argument that they must grab more. Meanwhile, they refuse to pay POLICE OFFICERS, TEACHERS, HEALTH WORKERS, and all the other Nigerians who are the real workers enough to feed their families, meeeeeeeen!!!
In closing, I recall the public prayer of a Nigerian boy of about twelve years of age who prayed to God that THUNDER SHOULD STRIKE NIGERIAN RULERS for their evils and wickedness to Nigerians. That was about a year ago. His video went viral because he spoke the minds of ALL Nigerians, except those in power. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the ever forgiving Almighty God does not answer such prayers. So, I haven’t seen any thunder striking any evil ruler of Nigeria. But I tell ya, if you ask me, or even as you ain’t asking me yet, I still tell ya, right here and right now, that if that same boy should direct his prayer to the smaller gods of the land, anyone who hatched that evil idea of increasing the salaries of the overpaid and looting rulers of Nigeria MAY FACE THUNDEROUS WRATH OF THE SMALLER GODS OF THE LAND, meeeeeeeen!!!
