HERE’S WISHING A GREAT CELEBRATION TO NIGERIA PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU ON HIS BIRTHDAY OF CONTROVERSIAL AGE

Greetings!
I am Harry Agina. You know, it is easy for Nigerians to think that I have a personal dislike of Nigeria’s president Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is because I do often criticize his rulership style, his policies, and some acts. Honestly, I don’t want to be seen to dislike him. I am not deriving any joy in speaking badly or negatively about him and I pray that he improves on his rulership ways so that I will sing his praises all the time. I have heard that, away from politics and rulership, the man is a likeable kind of guy with benevolent or compassionate nature. But, hey, what can I say, uuhm? I’m only doing my job as a journalist, a communications professional, and a Social Critic. It is my professional calling to critique and criticize leaders and rulers in any society, be it in the USA or Nigeria, or anywhere else.

I do have to criticize President Bola Tinubu’s rulership when he does something I believe is bad for Nigeria. It’s nothing personal. However, a good Social Critic must be objective and hail leaders or rulers whenever a reason arises. So, I am always on the lookout for something good to hail Tinubu to balance my criticism of his bad rulership policies.

All that, just to say that when I got the wind of President Bola Tinubu’s birthday celebration of March 29, 2026, I was happy to have something good to balance my recent criticisms of his rulership policies, actions, and inactions. I started writing a nice birthday message for him, but suddenly, it occurred to me that I didn’t know exactly what to enter in the slot I had for his age.

THE SEVERAL AGES OF MR. PRESIDENT:
I remembered that the true age of President Bola Tinubu is quite a controversial topic. Here are some conflicting documented records:

(1) On March 29, 2026, President Tinubu celebrated his birthday. I listened to Nigerian Arise News TV reporters on Tinubu’s birthday, and he was said to be aged 72 years old.

(2) If you Google President Tinubu’s date of birth, what you find is that he was born on March 19, 1952. That makes him 74 years old.

(3) Also, Google has it that on October 15, 1993, one Clifford Ndujihe of Nigerian Guardian Newspaper interviewed President Bola Tinubu. That was shortly after his return from self exile to escape the wrath of the then military ruler, Sani Abacha. In the interview, the president was said to be 52 years old then in 1993. Going by this, the president is now 85 years old.

Now, the question facing me was which of the three ages of President Bola Tinubu do we take to be correct. If we go by his physical stance and behavior, such as how he walks, it is easy to guess on the one hand that he is 85 years old as suggested by his 1993 Guardian Newspaper interview. On the other hand, it is difficult to reach that conclusion based on his apparent old-age walk and other physical difficulties. A 50-year old or even younger person with health issues could walk and behave like a 100-year old person. And yes, it is on record that President Bola Tinubu does have some health issues.

So, is my dear President Tinubu 72, 74, or 85 years old…or what??? But, you know what, I am okay with whatever age our president declares by himself that he is, after all, I don’t see what he stands to gain by lying about his age, or, is there? If I ever hear him pronounce his age by his own self, that’s what I would take him to be. The confusion is probably created by different people who are ascribing different ages to him.

In conclusion, I say whatever the age of our dear President Bola Tinubu, I do celebrate and congratulate him on his birthday. And yes, I thank the Almighty God for his life, and pray that he lives much longer, with improved health, in the name of Jesus…AMEN!!!
